Genesis Bereavement Program

Managing grief is a complex process and one you shouldn't attempt to undertake on your own.   Don't be afraid to ask family, friends or community organizations for help.

Newmarket and area HOSPICE services offer bereavement support, either individual or in groups.  Please visit hospice services for a directory of services in York Region.

Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home also offers its own in-house Genesis Bereavement Resource Centre and Lending Library to provide professional post funeral services.  We understand that our traditional ‘pre-need’ and ‘at-need’ services are important but helping people after a funeral is critical.

The Resource Centre opened in 1996 with Keith Taylor appointed as Director.  Our own on-site grief counsellor offers one-on-one sessions, group counselling services as well as a wealth of resources.  Whether you are one of our client families or a member of the community who is in need of support, we are pleased to offer these services free of charge. For more nformation on grief and bereavement, please visit our GRIEF ISSUES section of this website or feel free to visit our Genesis Bereavement Resource Centre and Lending Library.  If you would like to speak to a grief counsellor, please feel free to phone Keith Taylor at 905-895-6631 or email him at genesis@roadhouseandrose.com  For a directory of Genesis staff, please visit the "Our Staff" section of our website.

The objectives of the centre are:

To offer assistance to those families who are serviced by Roadhouse & Rose following the funeral service and to members of the community who are in need.

To offer an extensive community lending library with more than 100 titles related to death, dying, grief and bereavement.  Videos can also be obtained upon request.  Most materials in the library can be borrowed for a period of three weeks.

To become a valuable resource for professionals and other care-givers who are working with families preparing for death as well as those who have experienced a loss.

To offer community grief support groups designed to bring people together for support and understanding during this difficult time.  They meet on a weekly basis for a specific period of time.  Schedules can be obtained upon request through this website.

To offer private sessions with the Director of Genesis.

To arrange workshops and seminars when required.
