HOUSING OPTIONS FOR SENIORS

Social Housing

York Region's Community Services and Housing Department supports a variety of social housing programs which are primarily based on rents-geared-to-income.  These programs benefit over 7,000 households across York Region.  The majority of rent-geared-to-income housing is provided through non-profit and co-operative housing providers.  Households in rent-geared-to-income housing pay rent based on gross monthly income and other set guidelines.  Rental housing for all households, including senior citizens is allocating accordingly to the date the application is received.

Supportive Housing

Supportive housing is provided throughout York Region in designated rent-geared-to-income apartments.  The supportive housing programs assist the senior with personal care and, in most programs, home-making.  There may be minimal fees associated with the provision of care in some programs.  The independence of the senior is emphasized and the services are provided as necessary.  For further information call:

Housing Help Centre
