Please be
aware that on July 1st, 2010, the new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will take
effect in Ontario. This will combine the existing 5% federal Goods &
Services Tax (GST) & the 8% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) into a new
harmonized federal tax of 13%. Since 1991, funeral services have only
been taxed the 5% GST. This means that when the HST takes effect, it will
effectively add 8% to the price of funeral services.
The good
news is that if you pre-pay your funeral service prior to the tax
implementation date of July 1st, 2010, you will beat the HST and avoid the
additional 8% tax. Funerals pre-paid before this date will NOT be subject
to the new tax. Not only will you save an additional 8%, the funeral
costs are guaranteed at today's prices.
