Obituary for Constance Mary "Connie" Skinner (Riddell)

Constance Mary "Connie" Skinner (Riddell)
SKINNER (nee Riddell), Constance (Connie) Mary – succumbed, at the end of her 83rd year, to complications from pneumonia, on January 16, 2015, in Newmarket’s Southlake Regional Health Centre. Connie was the determined wife of 52 years to Bill (predeceased by 4 months), committed mother of Pat (Mike Cocker), Rod (Michelle), and Bob (Laura), treasured Grandma Snooks of Waylon, Reilly, Wyatt, Dryden, Isaiah, Mason, and Peyton, and loving aunt of Scott (Tracey) and Rob (Melanie) Hagen and their sons, and of Heather, Nixon, Sara Jane, and Derek Apple. Born in 1931, in Consort, Alberta, later moving to her father’s birthplace in Ontario, Connie completed high school in Galt, trained as a nurse at Hamilton General Hospital (1954), studied operating room procedures at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and graduated from The University of Western Ontario, London. Connie went on to train nursing assistants in Welland and in Newmarket. Nursing at Newmarket’s York County Hospital until her retirement, Connie was known as a no-nonsense head nurse, devoted to patients, colleagues, and attentive medical service.
A memorial celebration will be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street, South, Newmarket, on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. Inspired by her dear friend Marg Scott’s zest for living, and dedicated to repasts with family and friends at Newmarket’s The Buttery Restaurant, Daybreak, and Tom’s Diner, Connie enjoyed being surrounded by life. Remember her tough yet tender, at times cup half empty yet always heart overflowing. Remember her perfectly, imperfectly, and often. Suggestions for memorial donations are the Canadian Diabetes Association, St. Michael’s Hospital, and SickKids Hospital.
