Obituary for Harold Edward Joseph LaPlante

After a long decline, Harold, in his 92nd year, passed away peacefully at Newmarket Health Center on September 1st, 2015. He was born the eldest of 9 children to Edward and Veronica (Daley) LaPlante in Barrie on March 18, 1924. While serving in the RCAF, Harry married Dorothy Reid (predeceased), another RCAF volunteer, on August 7, 1945. After the war, he joined Bell Canada where he achieved success rising from lineman to management during a 42 year career. Harry was a committed community volunteer. Always active at St John Chrysostom Church, he also helped achieve major sports upgrades to the Fairgrounds Park. During his term on Newmarket Town Council, he successfully championed, among other issues, the establishment of water effluent treatment facilities. Above all, he valued family which was a major reason that he resided in Newmarket for 62 years. He was the happiest during family get togethers where various competitions both physical and mental were the norm. Harold is survived by one sister, Mary Frances Brunt, 5 children, Ron (Angela), Brian (Sandy), Alan (Jennifer predeceased), Jody (Cathy) and Maureen Farr (Randy predeceased). He was the loving grandfather to Ronald (Sarah), Troy (Cori), Meghan, Madison and Sara (predeceased); proud great grandfather of Owen, Rachel, Aiden and Ethan. Funeral services and burial will be held at St Elizabeth Seton Church, Newmarket at 11AM on September 9, 2015. A celebration of life will be held at Madsen Greenhouse, Newmarket on September 27, 2015 from 1 to 5 PM.
“Thank you Dad for always being there for us!”
