Obituary for Bernard Campbell Garrett

GARRETT, Bernard Campbell - Born December 29, 1929, Bernard (Bernie) Campbell Garrett, cherished husband to Norma and father to Melanie (Gordon) and Heather (Kal), he is remembered with tremendous love. A fun and beloved Grandpa to Careem and Sarah, he is remembered with hugs and smiles. He is survived by beloved brother Elton and dear sisters-in-law Jocelyn and Hoda and will be greatly missed. On Norma’s side, he is remembered with great affection by sisters-in-law, Joyce, Anne, Marjorie and Joan. Treasured nieces and nephews include: Mara and Harry; Tara and Michael; Linda, Karen and Wayne; Patrick, Tamara, Tanya and Peter; and Karen Henrikso. He was pre-deceased by: Alan, Audrey, Donald (Mary), Sheila and Graham. He is also remembered fondly by extended family and friends: Ayman, Dawn, Debbie, Fatma, Kamal, Keith, Mohamed, Renee and his Mississauga family’s children.

Bernie had a highly successful career in the Montreal shipping world and was respected by his colleagues and competitors. He ran the Port of Montreal with dear friend Carl. He was also a Port Manager in Churchill, Manitoba, a place which lived forever in his heart and in the hearts of his family.

Bernie and Norma met at 19, in the Montreal shipping world, and developed a friendship which blossomed into a partnership that lasted 65 years. Working together at a young age, they always had each other’s back. Eventually, the loyalty and respect they had for one another led to wedding bells. It is no surprise that their marriage was based on the principles of respect, integrity and love. They always supported one another through every difficulty and remembered the deep loyalty they shared. Their very successful, joyful marriage lives forever in the hearts and minds of those that know them. He was a devil but he was our devil and we loved him dearly. As requested cremation has taken place and memorial condolences may be made online at www.roadhouseandrose.com.
