HOWARD, Irene (nee Smith) - Passed away peacefully, at home on the farm, on Thursday, August 4, 2016, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Howard. Loving mother of Don (Debbie), Anne, Allen, Mary Ellen (Peter), Tom (Cathy), Bruce and the late Brian. She will be remembered by her grandchildren Tracey, Michael (Melody), Adam, Sabrina (Jim), Matthew (Judy), Lori (Bryant), Kelly (Dustin), Stephanie (Alex) and Andrea, and her 11 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Grace Bell and Eleanor Shaw, Irene was the eldest daughter of Lloyd and Flossie (Riddell) Smith of Newmarket. After receiving her Registered Nurses diploma, she returned from Orillia to work at York County Hospital (now Southlake Regional Health Centre), where she spent many years until her retirement in 1979. Throughout her life, Irene helped in many different areas at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Newmarket. Friends may call for visitation at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. S., Newmarket, on Sunday, August 7, 2016, from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 484 Water St., Newmarket, on Monday, August 8, 2016, at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church one hour prior. Interment to take place at Newmarket Cemetery. If desired, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Irene.
