Condolence: The Estonian Girl Guide and Boy Scout Band, Kõla, acknowledges and thanks you for your generous donation of instruments,to our ensemble. Kõla, the Estonian Girl Guide and Boy Scout Band, is a non-prot organization who has been playing in the Toronto Estonian community for approximately 60 years. We are always interested in acquiring new (or new to us) instruments and music for our group, but we do not have the funding to make this a reality. Some members have purchased their own instruments to use in the band while others have borrowed from local elementary or high schools over the years to meet our needs. Most of our sheet music is also borrowed or photocopied or printed from free websites on the internet. We perform twice every year. At the Estonian Independence Day assembly at the end of February, we play the processional, O Canada, the Estonian national anthem, and the recessional. We play again at the end of April for the annual Girl Guide and Boy Scout awards ceremony. This year, we are honoured to be travelling to Lakewood, New Jersey, to play at the opening and closing ceremonies of an international Estonian Girl Guide and Boy Scout Jamboree. Mr. Savage’s love of music is shared and acknowledged by the members of Kõla. We are extremely appreciative of your generous gift and are humbled to be able to provide a new home for his cherished instruments. Tiina Paluoja Director, Kõla

Condolence From: Mike and Zuni Sim
Condolence: Zuni and I were out for dinner when we read your poem and we had to pause from life for just a moment. The poem like your dad was wonderful and insightful. I noticed tears in Zuni's eyes and I found myself choking back a lump in my throat as I made my way through your beautiful words. You, like all of us, will always remember the good man your dad was and these memories will be with you forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Much love from Zuni and Mike.

Condolence: So very sorry to hear about Jack. My heart goes out to Joyce and the rest of the family. I grew up across the street and there was Jack treating Joyce to breakfast and keeping busy in their beautiful Lincoln town car. He inspired me to get a classic car. Thanks Jack! I'll always remember you! and to the rest take care of yourselves and each other 346 Dennie

Condolence: What can I say about Ken, Rob, Lori and Pat’s Dad, Jack Savage? Well Joyce's husband is a loving, proud, practical, grinning, joyful father and grandfather who allowed his sons to build sailboats in his yard (for years) or upside down bikes or animated films shot within his home. He is a sensible man who would keep the beat to the marching band - yet would understand the creativity and ingenuity of his sons like the syncopated rhythm of Jazz.

Condolence From: Carl Finkle
Condolence: Hi Zephyrs' I realize I was only a part time sub with Jack's band but I really enjoyed my time playing with Jack and the rest of the members of the band. Concerning the future of Jack's music it would seem a shame to see the music go. On that note can I ask you all is there any desire, interest, and will to continue with the band? It would be a tremendous way to honour Jack's legacy and the time he spent assembling the band and the music. If there's enough interest in caring on the band perhaps we could approach Laurie regarding the music. Please let me know how you feel. Perhaps, Susan could poll some of the other members who are not on the email list? Thanks, Carl

Condolence From: Henry & Susan Grygiel
Condolence: Hello former Zephyr Bandmates........ I spoke with Jack & Joyce’s daughter and she would love to find the perfect home for Jack’s amazing music charts. She has several suitcases plus a file cabinet full of these gems. When we spoke, she mentioned perhaps donating this music to a high school or a university. If any of you know a person or a band who would appreciate and respect this incredible assortment of music, please let her know. I know I speak on the behalf of all former Zephyr band members and for those who are no longer with us, that Jack, being our fearless leader, gave us the opportunity to play together and give us what we all loved doing the most......playing and creating music and for this we will all be eternally grateful for these precious memories and years of enjoyment. Henry & Susan Grygiel

Condolence From: The Boyces
Condolence: We were recalling the many times your Mom and Dad and ourselves got together to play those (stupid) games of password and others, especially on New Year's Eve when others were out "imbibing" (excessively I might add) and therefore unable to effectively recall "the fun" they had the night before. We are deeply sorry for your loss of your Dad and our thoughts are with you at this most difficult time. We wish you every success in your search for a suitable nursing home for your Mom. The Boyces.

Condolence From: Carol & Eduardo
Condolence: Dear Joyce, dear Family: Jack has left us all. So I want to send my condolences to the entire family. In these dramatic moments for all of us, also I would like to make a loving and sensible memory of him. I met Jack one day that I remember fondly, back in July 1984 when I first traveled to Canada with Carol and Adrian very young, only 2 years old. I was impressed with his huge figure at the airport, strong as an oak and hearty and sensitive and caring as few, with his blue eyes and his wisp of hair on his forehead. He quickly introduced us to the surroundings of Newmarket, showing us their natural beauties, its vast parks, the shores of Lake Ontario, children's attractions for Adrian, the city, a modern place full of contrasts. We also traveled together by boat at Niagara Falls, and of course he showed us his special sensitivity for music and his inexhaustible activity in a Jazz Band. These contacts and experiences were repeated with the same intensity two more times there, and once in Spain. I will always remember Jack as a very close person, with a unique sense of humor, always sparkling and always with his hand outstretched. I’ll always remember him! Eduardo

Condolence From: Kerri, Tuomas, Avery and Kendall
Condolence: Hello Lori, Ken and the rest of the family, Very sad news to hear of Uncle Jack's passing yesterday. I hope you find some comfort in knowing he is now pain-free and at peace as he gently passed in his sleep. I was very glad to have the opportunity to catch up with both Jack and Joyce and some of the rest of the family a few years ago while in Ontario. We had a lovely visit and now it is one that I am even more pleased to have had. I have always enjoyed Uncle Jack's stories of the "olden days" and we had some laughs over breakfast. Sending much love to all and healing wishes to Joyce. Kerri, Tuomas, Avery and Kendall

Condolence From: Angela, Tony Menezes, Annie Doyle
Condolence: Dear Ken John called with your sad news. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. I suppose your only consolation Ken is that your dad is now free of all his earthly sufferings - and he did suffer for quite some time. You have been so supportive through it all. It was so thoughtful and sweet of you Ken to get your mum to your dad's side to spend a few precious moments together. That alone, if not all the other thoughtful caring things you've done for your dad over the last few months, must give you a great sense of comfort in your grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Loraine, your brother and his family and your mum. Love you lots Ken. (Big hug) Mum, Tony and Angela

Condolence From: Debbi & Mike Lang
Condolence: Dearest Auntie Joyce & Cousins, We are sad to say goodbye to Uncle Jack. Such an fine, energetic & intelligent man.... I've just been reading Grandma Savage's Memories book & enjoying Uncle Jack's tales as the oldest son. Seems like we have said goodbye several times to parents, aunts & uncles in the last years. Our age, I guess. Such fond memories of times with your family in Ontario & before that in Alberta. Bless you all in this time of loss. Losing parents has created quite a few shifts for me in my life perspective & I find that saying goodbye is an ongoing process. All the best, Debbi & Mike
