Obituary for Alice Finlay (Gray)

Finlay, Alice
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Alice Finlay, on Sunday August 22, 2021, at Southlake Residential Care Village, at the age of 92. Alice was the beloved wife, of the late William Finlay (1996) and loving mother of Sandra (Walter), Don (Laurel), Paul (Shelley), John and Richard (Michelle). Alice was the adored grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and proud great-grandmother of five great grandchildren. Born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Alice and Bill immigrated to Canada in 1965 to provide a future in Canada for their daughter and four sons. Alice and Bill owned and operated the Planet Meat Market in Newmarket for many years. Alice continued a similar path and worked together with her daughter Sandra, at several local butcher shops.
Alice was actively involved in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church community and enjoyed her years of aquafit at the local swimming pool. Many were the recipient of one of her beautiful knit creations or a cherished Irish knit sweater. In earlier years, both Alice and Bill could be found cheering on the sidelines of a Newmarket Soccer game or supporting the club. Alice will always be remembered for her Irish wit and heartwarming smile, a kitchen that always had an open door and beautiful blue eyes that sparkled to the end. A private family service was held on August 26, 2021. We would like to thank Wes Playter and the staff of Roadhouse and Rose, for their support in preparing a wonderful celebration of life for Alice. The family would also like to thank the staff at Southlake Residential Care Village for their dedication, with special thanks to the 2West team. Those wishing to make a donation in Alice’s memory, could make it to your local food bank.
