Obituary for Marie Luttrell (Smith)

In Loving Memory of
Marie “Micky” Luttrell

She waited until the spring sun had coaxed the daffodils to bring hopes of renewal to leave us. With heavy hearts we must share the loss of Marie Luttrell on March 30th, 2021.
Marie was the devoted wife of the late Lloyd, the beloved mother of Mark and Susan, Janis, Bradley and Valerie, David and Debbie, the proud Nana of Alex, Kala, Kaitlyn, Nicola, Adam, Quentin, Meghan, Georgianna, Elise, Nadine, Monique, Zackary, and the great-grandmother of Aislyn, Macy, Pia, Grayson, Emma and Aylah.

Marie was a small-town girl from Capreol, Ontario (she always had so many strong and wonderful memories of her Northern Ontario home). “Micky” (as she was known by her family) and her siblings Jim (d), David (d), Betty (d), Doris (d), Shirley (d), Marnie (d) and Audrey (d) were proud children of their widowed mother Myrtle (husband, Horace, died in a train accident in 1929, before Marie was born), who eventually moved the family south to Toronto, (it was from her revered mother that Marie got her strength and work ethics). Once in Toronto, Marie attended high school at Parkdale Collegiate and after graduation secured a job at an insurance company. It was there that she met and then married the love of her life, Lloyd. In 1958 they moved into a new house in Newmarket and became life-long residents and members of the Lundy’s Lane group (good friends – good times).

From the Three Tenors to James Taylor to Tony Bennett, music always played an important part of Marie’s daily existence, in her last years she made that even more clear by her singing and serenading. She loved her garden, especially her magnolia tree, which when in bloom took pride of place in her front yard. Her love of cocker spaniels was known but especially for her lovely Muffin. Marie was a renowned baker whose Christmas treats were always the highlight of the season. She would bake for weeks leading up to the holidays and family and friends couldn’t wait for her constantly stocked platter of wonderful and tasty goodies to be unveiled. Christmas tradition lives on through her many recipes passed onto her children and grandchildren. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without Marie’s Neapolitan Squares or Pecan Snowballs.
Marie was soft-spoken, thoughtful, and caring, and so very proud of her family. She had a definite sparkle in her eye which will never be forgotten and she became known as “Sweet Marie”, a most fitting tribute to a lovely lady.

We would like to thank everyone at Parkview Home for the wonderful care given to Marie and for all of the consideration shown to her and the family. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Due to these COVID times a service and Celebration of Life will be planned once it is safe for family and friends to gather again.

If you wish to honour Marie, you can make a donation to your favourite charity or cause in her name.
It is never good-bye. Marie will be with us always and there will be smiles through the tears. Our joys were greater, our love was deeper and or lives were fuller, all because we were able to share her moment.

“Her song lives on.”
