Obituary for Barbara Isabel Wittmer (Fraughton)

Barbara Isabel Wittmer (née Fraughton)

Passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket. Born on February 14, 1936 in Quinan, Nova Scotia she moved to Halifax and then later to Toronto where she met and married Anton Wittmer in 1955. Together they raised three children, Lynn (Henry 2008), Wayne (Elizabeth) and Janet, in a busy, loving household.

Eventually Barbara and Anton moved to Aurora. With time she amazingly taught herself to speak German, as many of Anton’s family visited frequently. Barbara enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and over the years she shared her love of the game as she patiently taught many friends and family members to play as well. As a family they all enjoyed cottaging over many years at Stormy Lake in the Haliburton Highlands. Barbara loved to walk with her dog Keisha, swim, cook and play Scrabble. She loved to win with a big score! Barbara found great joy in sharing cottage life with her grandchildren Rebecca(Mitch), David(Phoebe), Emily(Aaron) and Jared (Eilidh) who all cherish wonderful memories of time spent with Grandma and Grandpa at the cottage. In recent years she was delighted to welcome three great grandchildren Tommy, Alex and Claire to the family.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday November 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Grace Church, Aurora in the Lynett Hall. The Hall is located at the Yonge Street and Catherine Ave Entrance. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Margaret Bahen Hospice would be sincerely appreciated. We will never forget the kindness and caring that the staff there extended to our entire family. Online donations may be made to
