Obituary for Beverley Agnes Doak (McKnight)

DOAK, BEVERLY AGNES
Feb 2, 1934 - Jun 15, 2023

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Beverly Agnes Doak (nee McKnight) at Southlake Village in Newmarket. Devoted Mother to Laurie (Steve), Alex (Nancy), Jeannie (Tim), Jack (Sherri) and Jim (Cindy). She will be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren many of whom have so many cherished memories of their time at Grandma’s cottage.

Beverly was born in Scarborough, Ontario to (the late) Robert and Edna McKnight (nee Curren). She is survived by her beloved baby brother, Bob Mcknight, sister-in-law, Gail McKnight, brother-in-law, Jim Ward and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her much loved big sister, Edna McPherson (McKnight), brothers-in-law, Jack Doak and Pat Lannon, sisters-in-law, Marion Doak (nee King) Jean Lannon (nee Doak) and Helen Ward (nee Doak).

She was predeceased by her husband and the love of life, Drew Doak, who passed away in 1979 at the age of 46. Forever by his side and always supportive of his many and varied professional and civic endeavours, including a term as Mayor of Newmarket, Mom was a tireless and gracious host. Since first establishing themselves in Newmarket in 1957, they were both integral members of many community service organizations. Her civic involvement and support of our father, however, never detracted her from her main occupation - her unparalleled and selfless devotion to her home and five children.

Widowed at the age of 45, Mom was the model of love and strength to each and every one of us ranging in age from 22 to 8 years. While she continued to maintain our home with perfection, she thrusted herself back into the working world after more than a 22 year hiatus. Most importantly to her, after selling our family home, she invested in a cottage at Belmont Lake which became a huge source of pride and a family gathering spot. For over forty years, her greatest pleasure in life was sitting on her deck overlooking the water sipping coffee in the morning and wine at night. But what really completed her world was the arrival of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the lake because what she valued most in life was her family.

A heartfelt thank you to: all the staff at Southlake Village for their tremendous care of our Mother especially during the last month of her life; our sister, Laurie, for being where some of us just couldn’t be, so lovingly and consistently by Mom’s side; and to our brother, Alex and sister-in-law, Nancy, for ALWAYS being there for Mom.

As per our Mom’s wishes, no funeral will be held. A private family interment and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
