Obituary for Brian Anthony Mathias

Passed away at Southlake Village, Newmarket, on 21 January 2022 in his ninety second year after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s/dementia. Predeceased by his loving wife Freda of sixty-three years. Survived by his children David, Anthony, Lois and four grandchildren. Predeceased are his siblings Chris, Ernest, Eva, Eileen, David. Dear son of the late Ernest Charles Frederick Mathias and Elsie Humphries. As a boy Brian developed a passion for roaming the countryside and canoeing that continued later in to his life exploring and wandering the forests on the west side of Algonquin, following the paths less traveled and more often no path at all. Sometimes a topographic map and a compass was involved. These skills were developed during his time in the Royal Engineers running a map printing and distribution center in cold war Germany. After his military service he became a tool designer focusing on injection moulding tools for then fledgling plastics industry. In the early 1960s with his business partner Herman, founded a tool design company in Willowdale, first of many entrepreneurial ventures that carried on until his retirement in the 1990s. Special thanks to the people of Southlake Village long term care. In light of the current situation a memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a cause of your choice or just go for a walk in the woods. Online condolence at www.roadhouseandrose.com
