Obituary for Carol Ann Bertoia (McCallum)

Carol Ann Helen (McCallum) Bertoia
November 27, 1933 – May 23, 2021

Carol was born and raised in Montreal, the oldest child of John and Anne (Cornell) McCallum. She attended the Villa Maria for high school continuing to Marymount and Sir George Williams University (Concordia) where she graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemistry.

After her marriage, Carol moved with her family to Quebec City, Deux Montagnes, Sherbrooke, and Montreal West before finally moving to Toronto in 1969. Once settled in Toronto, Carol began working for the Robert Simpson Co. and subsequently The Bay until she retired. In retirement, Carol kept herself busy by volunteering for different organizations but special to her was The Royal Ontario Museum (30+ years) which ended with the onset of the pandemic.

Carol spent many summers with her grandchildren at the cottage which produced many tales of adventure and misadventures. She had many passions including bridge, reading, travel, and crossword puzzles. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter as well as being always up to the challenge of a new recipe.
Carol was the beloved mother of Susan (Mark Banting) and Tom (Patricia Abbey), loving grandmother of Samantha, Ted and Sean Banting and James (Shannon), Charles (Jenny), Henry Bertoia and great-grandmother of Madeleine. Carol was pre-deceased by her brother Tom McCallum and is survived by her sister Maureen Getty.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Donations in Carol’s memory can be made to the Southlake Hospital Foundation, 102-581 Davis Drive Newmarket, ON, L3Y 2P6;
