Obituary for Cyril Walter Benjamin Harper

HARPER, Cyril Walter Benjamin
January 30, 1928 – January 26, 2023

Peacefully passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on Thursday January 26, 2023, in his 95th year. Reunited with the love of his life the late Lucille Harper (d. 2014). Proud father of Eric and wife Joy of Oshawa, and Kim of Kitchener.

Survived by his sister Ethlyn and brother Winston of Trinidad, sisters-in-law Rose of England, Veronica of Russell, Lucy of Bradford, Lucia of Montreal and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving parents Sarah (nee Mahoney) and Lewis Harper, brothers Austin, Wilfred and Basil, sister-in-law Mary, brothers-in-law CM, Jock, John and Patrick Sr. and his son-in-law Paul Ford.

Cyril was born in Montserrat and grew up in St. Kitts. He worked as a Chartered Accountant since the late 1950s. He was an active member of St James the Apostle in Sharon, and a previous member of St. Paul's and St. Timothy's in Newmarket. Cyril volunteered on the literacy council, was on the board of the Red Cross, did outreach visits through the church to local nursing homes, hospitals, residents, and the local Community Living.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team and the Cardiology Care unit at Southlake as well as the staff at Chartwell Barton Retirement Residence.

Family and friends are welcomed to the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street, S., Newmarket for visitation on Thursday February 2, 2023, from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Friday February 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. followed by refreshments.

Cyril will be laid to rest at Newmarket Cemetery, 112 Main Street North, Newmarket.
