Obituary for Donald Edwin Albertson

Donald Edwin Albertson (Don)
Friday, July 2, 1926 - Saturday, May 22, 2021

Don passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 22 at The Margaret Behan Hospice in Newmarket, Ontario. He was diagnosed with cancer November 2020 and had a wonderful 6 months with family and friends. He went downhill very quickly in May and didn't suffer long. He is survived by his daughter Donna, son-in-laws Bob and Rick, grandchildren Rob and Valerie, sister-in-law Corinne, favourite niece Jacilynn and cousin Gayle (more cousins as well). His warm, caring, positive, humorous and adventurous spirit will be very missed by all that knew him. He really knew how to enjoy life.

When Don was asked at the Hospice what he was most proud of in his life, he answered that he was proud he grew up on a farm. He was born and raised on a farm in Streetsville, had a long and rewarding career at IBM Canada in Don Mills ending as a Manager and had a long retirement living in Florida for the winter and travelling the world with is lovely wife Verna. His favourite hobbies were motorcycling (got many enduro trophies and rode until he was 89) and driving his many cars over the years anywhere (drove until he was 92; last favourite car was BMW). He loved to explore roads and sometimes ended up in cow pastures LOL Donna was with him when that happened once and she feels it may have happened more than once.

The family is not having a service/memorial as per Don's wishes, but when the pandemic is over enough that the restaurants are completely open, they will arrange a lunch/dinner for close family and friends to get together and share happy stories and memories of Don.

The family advises they prefer not to get cards or flowers, but would appreciate donations to be made to The Margaret Behan Hospice in Newmarket who took excellent care of him for 11 days using the following link:
