- OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN! - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doug Smythe of Richmond Hill (originally of Stratford). Doug will be so very missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley, daughter Janice (Jamie) and son Jeffery (Tracey), his adoring grandchildren Jessica, Kyle, Leila, Eric, and Nicole, and great granddaughter Violet, sister Shirley and brother Clifford (Marg). We will miss his love, friendship, and certainly his humour, even his corny jokes. Doug was an outdoorsman, a golfer, and a crossword puzzle aficionado. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date, due to the Corona virus. On-line condolences at In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Downs Syndrome Association of York Region ( in his honour.

Condolences to Shirley and the entire Smythe family on your loss. Doug was a very well respected member of the Country Club (Board of Trade) not for his great golf game but for his humour and love of life. Not a visit would go by without one of Doug's jokes or funny quips. I think he coined the phrase "quick with a quip" He will be missed by his friends and he had a lot of them at the club. Doug, you will be missed.

I met Doug way back in 1978 and always found him to a funny, good soul. There are too many good memories of him to only pick one. I know he will be missed by all that knew him.
My condolences to the entire family
