Edith Irene Barker
Mom was born April 15, 1921 in Hamilton Ontario to the late Fred Wilman (1959) and Alice Farrar (1980). She was a proud 101 years young at the time of her passing on May 26, 2022 at the Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario. She was predeceased by Denzil, (1982) her beloved husband of 41 years, her brother Jack, and two grandsons, Troy Hopper (2011) and Corey Barker (2017).
She is survived and sadly missed by children, Dianne Hopper (Joe), Wayne (Tisch), Paul and Cheryl Fedrigo (Agostino, 2021), grandchildren, Kelly, Denise (Bill), Michael (Ashley), Zachary (Reena), Corbin (Jacqueline), Jordan (Jasmina), Avery (Vanessa), and Keegan and great grandchildren, Tyler, Zoe, Beckett, Miles, Mila, Jack, Levi, Maverick, Benjamin, Charlotte, Mia and Samantha. She will be sadly missed by chosen daughter, Anita Harder, “adopted families”, Claudia, John and Jessica, and Carole, Eldon and Siobhan plus her nieces, nephews and myriad friends, especially the residents and staff of The Roxborough Retirement Residence in Newmarket.
Mom was a gregarious and outgoing personality who could turn a stranger into a new best friend in under ten minutes. From her childhood she had a passion for dance, which followed her through her 101 years. She was always active in her lifestyle, exercising on a daily basis both her body and her mind, teaching and practicing tai chi and teaching seniors how to live life to the fullest.
She had a love of reading, swimming at the lake, nature walks, chatting with friends and family and making everyday count. Mom travelled extensively in the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica. She loved meeting new people and the opportunity to enjoy wide-ranging experiences. She was kind and caring to all she met and rarely spent a day without a positive outlook on life. She was a wonderful example and role model to us all. She will be missed!
