Obituary for Emily Christa Ruytenbeek

Emily Ruytenbeek, born November 17, 1999, passed away suddenly at Southlake Regional Health
Centre on December 11, 2020, shortly after celebrating her 21st birthday.

Emily will be sorely missed by her brother Carter, her dad Paul, her mom Peggy, and her kitten Apollo, as
well as by a great number of extended family and friends. Sadly, Emily's life was cut short and we will
miss finding out what this confident, ambitious young woman might have achieved in her life. Emily and
her love of life will not be forgotten.

Emily had an impact on those who knew and loved her. She was strong willed, had a witty sense of
humour, and loved being physically active. She was passionate about hockey. As an enthusiastic and competitive player, her teammates referred to her as “the enforcer”. She played in the Central York Girls
Hockey League while growing up in Newmarket and continued to play hockey when she moved to
Thunder Bay for University. She even enjoyed learning to play roller hockey when she spent time visiting
family in Australia. Emily loved spending time outdoors and being at the cottage was always special for
her. Emily was musically talented, playing both piano and guitar.

Emily was very caring and compassionate; she planned to dedicate her life to helping others as a nurse,
and was enrolled as a Nursing Student at Lakehead University. She was the first to rush to the aid of her
brother, an injured friend or teammate, and enjoyed her time volunteering by fostering homeless kittens.
She was a bright, high achieving student and was looking forward to beginning her nursing practicum
placement in the new year. Emily’s sense of adventure, her willingness to take risks and her joy of
learning new things will always be part of our memories of her.

Family and friends are invited to attend the virtual memorial service on Saturday December 19, 2020 at
