Obituary for Florence Teresa Girard (Hutchinson)

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dearly beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Florence “Flo” Girard

September 3, 1927 – June 10, 2022

Flo passed away peacefully at 94 years of age, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by Al, her loving husband of 54 years. Devoted mother of Carol (Joop) of Newmarket, Larry (Yan) of Vancouver, Maria (Kevin) of England. Grandmother with much pride to Kevin (Keisha) of Nassau, Bahamas; Christopher (Catrina) of Holland Landing; Andrea (Michael) of Newmarket; Jennifer (John) of Vancouver; Renee (Todd) of Nashville, TN; Amanda (Ralph) of Vancouver; Damien (Diane), Nicola (Michael), Mark (Jenny) of England. Adored great grandmother of Brandon, Owen and Eli, Alexandra and Emma, Joshua, Jayden, Max, and Ryleigh, Morgandy and Caitlin, Henry, William and Hannah, Joe, Rebecca and Patrick.

Flo will be missed by her lifelong best friend and sister-in-law Hilda Armstrong and trusted blueberry picking partner Anna Hamernick. Flo and Al met in York, England and were married in 1946 at the Ripon Cathedral. She was a proud war bride who came to Canada in 1946. Flo and Al settled in Elliot Lake where they raised Carol and Larry and built a lifetime of memories with their extended family and friends. Flo enjoyed a long career with the Sears Catalogue store in Elliot Lake and was everyone’s go-to lady when they wanted a discount. Flo’s devotion to her husband and family brought her to Newmarket in 1985. She became an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Newmarket. She was also a devoted volunteer at the Newmarket Food Bank. Flo has left her friends and loved ones with a never-ending list of memories that will be cherished for many generations. She baked the best banana bread, loved unconditionally and was everyones Nan.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harold Yuen and the staff at the Margaret Bahen Hospice for their kindness and compassion. Visitation to be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street, Newmarket. Friends and family are invited to come and share their memories on Monday, June 27, 2022, between 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A private family interment will follow.
