Obituary

Frank Thomas “Tom” Evenden, passed away suddenly at the age of 85, on February 22, 2020, he leaves behind to tell his story, his wife of 67 years and partner in adventure Thelma Evenden and his four daughters, Wendy (Ken Loney), Vicki (Stan Gunn), Cheryl (John Goodman) & Susan.

He taught his 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild “Whatever you do, do with your might, things done by halves are never done right.”

Tom is the eldest son of Thomas Henry Evenden & Lillian May King. He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Ellen (Roy, deceased) and Dianne (Bob) and brothers, John (Audrey) and Bob (Sheila) and many nephews and nieces.

Tom’s accomplishments were too vast and varied to list in so small a space. We prefer to use the words of his friends.

He was a “true inspiration to live life to the fullest.” He had a, “wacky humour and huge curiosity for the world around him.”

Tom was an “Adventurous spirit”, “an inspiration of energy and enthusiasm.” and a “great example of living life to the fullest.”

He was “Bigger than life” and “His kids adored him.”

Family and friends may join us in a Celebration of Tom's life at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, February 26, 2020 at 1:00pm for stories and laughter. A luncheon will be served.

Memorial donations may be made in Tom’s name to the charity of your choice.

We have many wonderful memories of traveling with Tom and Thelma, playing games and visiting. We met on a caravan to Newfoundland and remained friends. Tom was “one of a kind”, he would try anything and always had a story to tell. Thelma we can’t be there but we send you and the family our love and prayers! We were blessed to know Tom! We will be in touch.

I am currently in Orlando Florida with family. I was telling them about how Tom and Thelma spent a great deal of time “playing” and camping at Disney World even before I knew Tom had passed. Tom was a lively, fun and all round great guy. I feel lucky to have known him. I will not be able to make the celebration of life but will be thinking of him and all of you while we continue our days in Disney. Sending big hugs to Thelma and Wendy and the rest of your family.

Thank you Diane. They loved Disney World; they have a brick on the sidewalk with their names on it, but I can't remember where it is offhand.

To all the Evenden girls
I spent a large portion of my formative years at your houses on Verobeach and Hazelwood. As our parents were friends Susan and I were thrown together at birth and had no option but to become friends ourselves. I was always so envious of the great family vacations you took. When it turned out that Tom had instructed scuba diving to the man I married there was really only one choice for Master of Ceremonies at our wedding! No trip home to Newmarket was complete without a visit to your house as our family grew. Later I caught up with Tom and Thelma mall walking instead. There are no words to express the impact your family had on my life and how sorry I am for your loss. I know you will cherish your memories and move forward together.
