Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Gerald (Gerry) Thomas FitzGerald, youngest child of and predeceased by his parents Helen and Frank FitzGerald of Newmarket, Ontario.
He will be greatly missed by his brother Frank FitzGerald (Patty) of Newmarket, Ontario, his sister Sharon Petzold (Jim) of Roberts Creek B.C., his nephews Tom FitzGerald (Jennifer) of Holland Landing, Ontario., Matthew Petzold (Lisa) of Kamloops, B.C., Nathan Petzold of Vancouver, BC. and his nieces Katheryn FitzGerald Tester (James) of Sandefjord, Norway and Michelle Marchesini (Michael) of Vancouver, B.C. as well as 7 great nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his long-time friend Rosemary Hawkins of Newmarket, Ontario.
Gerry was a kind and loving man and was especially fond of the many friends he met in his lifetime in his community of Newmarket. Following graduation from Huron Heights Secondary School, he become a proud employee of the Town of Newmarket and the City of Toronto where he worked until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Newmarket Veterans' Association.
Gerry had a passion for woodworking, he was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed travelling in winter to warm and sunny places until his declining health and the pandemic prevented him from doing the things he loved.
He was diagnosed with terminal cancer very recently and died peacefully at Margaret Bahen Hospice, Newmarket, Ontario.
A courageous man, taken too soon, he will be in our hearts forever and is resting peacefully in the arms of Our Lord.
Private family interment at St. John Chrysostom Cemetery in Newmarket. In lieu of flowers, be kind, and maybe a small donation to the Margaret Bahen Hospice.
