Obituary for Gordon and Marion Jones

James Gordon Jones, of Newmarket, Ont, passed peacefully on 7 April, 2024 at Southlake Regional Health Centre. He was 89. Gord was born December 18, 1934 in East York. He had been retired for more than 30 years after working for the school board. He was a member of the Tuscan Shrine and often spoke with pride of the good work in which they were involved. He was also an avid fan of playing darts and loved getting mad at his Blue Jays.

Marion Margaret Jones (nee Campbell), pre-deceased Gord peacefully on October 19, 2020 at the Mackenzie Health Centre in Richmond Hill. She was 77. She was born in Toronto on October 29, 1942. Marion worked for Gaylea for many years and, even in retirement, enjoyed maintaining many of her work relationships.

They are survived by Gord’s son, Brian Keith Jones of Ottawa, and Marion’s son, Dan Ryland, his wife Maureen Whalen, and their children Jessica & Evan, of Pointe Claire, Quebec.

Gord and Marion were married on April 4, 1981 in Leaside, Ont. Most of their married life was happily spent in Newmarket, Ontario, were they enjoyed taking in lacrosse games, watching the Blue Jays and participating in the many Shriner social events, often using their gatherings south of the border as an excuse for a vacation. They loved spoiling their grandchildren. A lot.

Simple, good people…they will be missed by all who knew them and counted them as friends.

A gathering to remember Marion and Gord will be held June 1st, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket, Ontario. All are welcome to attend.
