Helen Antonia Bugeja (nee Sammut) peacefully passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto on Saturday October 3rd, 2020 in her 86th year. Loving wife of Eucharistic for 65 years. Beloved mother to Joseph (Deborah) and Margareth (Carl, England). Proud grandmother to Daniel, Kristen and Carissa. Sister of Peter, Juliet, Joan, George and the late Paul, Alexander and Mary. Daughter of the late Carmen and Sam Sammut in Gozo, Malta.

Helen was born in Gozo, Malta and emigrated to Toronto in the early 1950s. She was an esteemed accountant spending over 30 years at Simmons Ltd in Bramalea. Helen took pleasure in her semi-retirement while working at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Helen was blessed with a caring and jovial personality. She was a joy to be with and her beaming smile touched everyone who knew her. The love Helen had for her family knew no bounds and many were fortunate to have received her kindness, love and support. In her later years, the dementia may have dulled some of Helen’s light, but her spark was ever present.

Special thanks to the exceptional support staff at Sunnybrook Hospital.

A visitation will take place on Monday November 2nd, 2020 from 10am - 11 a.m. If you would like to attend the visitation please RSVP with your name, phone number, and how many people will be attending with you at or call 905-895-6631.

Private Condolence

Our deepest condolences to the Bugeja family. I met Helen shortly after becoming friends with her daughter, Margareth. She always warmly welcomed me into their home and I fondly remember her famous strawberry sauce on top of pancakes. Helen also got me my first office job at Simmon's, which was a great experience. Her warmth and smile will always be remembered. Lots of love from Sandro, Sean & Cameron.

Thanks for your message Sandro. I have the strawberry sauce recipe, among many other fantastic recipes. Mom was such a great cook!
