Obituary

O'NEILL, James Ronald

Passed away peacefully at Margaret Bahen Hospice on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the age of 88. James is reunited with his loving wife, the late Mary O'Neill (nee Whitehead). Cherished father of Peter (Lidia), Michael (Jocelynn), Kathy, Sharon (Doug), and Sean. Beloved Grandpa of Stephanie, Justin, Rheanna, and Corben. Great Grandpa of Thanos. Beloved brother of John (Carol), Mary, Patricia, Art (Marie), and Rose.

Jim was always connected with his community, whether through the Kinsmen club, K-40, or volunteering. With his kind heart and cheery spirit, he was a dear friend to many. Jim had a long career with BMO. Following retirement, he was proud to be one of the "Founding Fathers" of the BMO Cyber Pensioners.

The family would like to thank his team at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre for the care he has received over the years. They would also like to express their deep appreciation for the warmth and kindness shown by the staff and volunteers at Margaret Bahen Hospice during Jim's final journey.

A celebration of James' life will take place at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Margaret Bahen Hospice (www.myhospice.ca)

On behalf of the Sharman Family, our heartfelt condolences on Jim's passing.

I particularly, have some great memories of Jim, and remember calling him "Uncle Jim" when I was younger. He and Mary spent some time each summer with us at The Big Oak Golf Course in Geneva. (Mary and my Mom, Elizabeth had long been very good friends). Jim and I did a lot of fishing in the pond on the course, and we we're after "Mr Big!" This was the bass that eluded our capture over one particular summer. We never caught him, but built a lot of great memories in the process of trying.

My brother Jeff might also recall when Jim and Mary watched us during a family wedding, they made sure we had plenty of good snacks (which we got to pick out!) and kept us company as we watched movies in the hotel room, as the wedding reception went on late into the night.

I feel really fortunate that Jim was at my own wedding in 2003, I remember him dancing and having a great time, with both new friends and those that he'd known for many years.

I'm very sorry for your family's loss. Though those of us who knew Jim, feel very fortunate for the good times that we had shared together.

Just think of the many BMO pensioners who take comfort...and pride, in their never ending connection to Mother Bank. Thanks to Jim, we are all endowed. God love you Jim!

We were saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Of course, we knew he was very ill, but still I know that it would have been a shock to his family. We have many fond memories of spending time with Mary and Jim and all our Kinsmen friends over the better part of forty years. We know that he will be sadly missed. We will make a donation to the Margaret Bahen Hospice in his name. Take care.
Sincerely,
Garry and Sandra

Very sad to hear of Jim passing. Mom and dad were close friends of Mary and Jim as fellow members of the south shore kinsmen club. We had camping holidays as families, back yard BBQ’s and many Kinsmen events that brought families together. Jim was always ready to share a smile or a hand. He was a kind, gentle and caring. My condolences to you all. I know he will live on in the hearts of many.
