Obituary for James David Peden

James (Jim) David Peden, 92, formerly of Richmond Hill, recently residing at the Amica in Newmarket, Ontario, passed away with his daughter by his side amidst the loving thoughts and embrace of his family, on August 19, 2021.

Jim was born on June 18, 1929 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, to John and Mary Ann (McConochie) Peden. On June 28, 1952, he married his beautiful and loving wife, Patsy (Coleman) Peden. Jim was employed by Ontario Hydro, now known as Ontario Power Generation, working in the geophysical engineering department for just a little less than 40 years. Always dedicated and hardworking, he enjoyed working both out in the field and at the office in downtown Toronto making many friends along the way. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed curling, fishing, camping, golfing and for many years, coaching hockey. In his retirement, he always enjoyed attending soccer, baseball, and hockey games or skating and dance recitals to watch his grandchildren as they grew and developed their own skills and talents, always the proudest grandpa. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, Patsy, all over Canada and the United States, sometimes visiting relatives, when time would permit. In his later years, Jim enjoyed watching sports on TV, crossword or jigsaw puzzles, gardening, Grey Cup parties with Grandpa’s specialty steak and beef chili, and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by sons, Andrew (Marilyn McNaughton) Peden, John Peden, daughters, Diane (Mark) Crawford, Joanne Pinelli, Rosemary (Bart) Trentadue, daughter-in-law, Judith Peden, grandchildren, Jeremy (Kayo Okui) Crawford, Ryan (Jenna Fitchett) Peden, Kerri (Ryan Oliver) Crawford, Christina (Ryan LaFlamme) Peden, Shawn (Meghan) Peden, Lisa (Ivan Marjanovik) Peden, James (Jenny Sparrey) Peden, Matthew (Laura) Peden, Christopher (Kelsey Johnston) Pinelli, Michael (Cassandra Cox) Pinelli, David (Kelsi Eaglen) Schell, Courtney Schell, Emily Peden, Kristin Trentadue, great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Saya, Shawn, Kaylie, Josephine, Eli, Thomas, Carter, Audrey, step great-grandchildren, Trenton, Sierra, Taytum, sisters, Evelyn Kernahan, Luona Nuckles, Betty (Bob) Vezina, sister-in-law, Jean Coleman, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Jim was sadly preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patsy (2013), and son, Thomas Peden (2011).

A private family only memorial service will be held for Jim with visitation at 10:00 AM, and the service at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. S, Newmarket, ON L3Y 3Y9. The service will also be Live Streamed at 11:00 AM (EST) for any family or friends who wish to watch. The Live Stream link can be found below. The interment will follow immediately after the service at Newmarket Cemetery, 112 Main St. N, Newmarket, ON. Friends are invited and welcome to join the family and attend a luncheon at 1:00 PM at Olde Village Free House, 196 Main St. S, Newmarket, ON, on the patio. There is parking available in the rear.
