JAMES LYLE SPEIRS
1949 - 2022
On November 1, 2022, James (Jim) Lyle Speirs, suddenly passed away at home, at the age of 73 years.
Jim was born in Toronto, Ontario, predeceased by his parents Lyle and Maud (Frye) and sister Myra Baker.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife of over 20 years, Fiona, and his sons Mathew (Jessica), Jeffrey and Jonathan, and stepson Christopher (Jessica). Jim also leaves behind three granddaughters Luella, Marigold, and Lyanna. After having all boys Jim loved the fact that he had granddaughters.
During his working life Jim worked for the Department of National Defense, the Toronto Transit Commission, Royal Bank of Canada and American Express. In his retirement Jim spent much time on his recipe websites and his scouting website.
Jim was a volunteer for Scouts Canada for over 30 years. He was never happier than when sharing his knowledge with Scouting youth. Jim was involved with 7th Thornhill, 1st Thornhill, 5th Thornhill and most recently with 5th Aurora. He was involved in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at various times together with being involved in training and other roles at the District/Area level.
He also volunteered with Welcome Table in Aurora, Ontario. He was also a member of the Newmarket Historical Society.
He had a great sense of humour and could always see the funny side of everything. He delighted in making those around him laugh. He also loved baseball, cooking, camping, canoeing, and teaching youth through Scouting while indulging his wife’s love of history and Disney. He was a quiet man who could always be counted on to introduce a zinger comment into any conversation.
At his request there will be no funeral or visitation. There will be a celebration of his life on November 13th. If you wish to attend the celebration please contact Terri at 905-726-9758. If you attend the celebration the dress code is casual. Jeans welcome. Jim hated suits and ties and would be horrified if he thought he was forcing anyone to wear them. The family asks that any donations be made to Welcome Table at www.welcomingarms.ca
