Obituary for Jeff Peter Gobatto

It is with great sadness that we share that Jeff (Jeffrey) Gobatto passed away peacefully with family by his side at Southlake Regional Health Centre, in Newmarket, Ontario, on Tuesday March 28, 2023 at the age of 48. His family thanks everyone who provided medical care and support for Jeff.

Jeff was deeply connected to his family. He is survived by his wife, Amanda; children, Jess and Jacob; mother, Margaret; sister, Mandy and by extended family including Craig, Meg, Aiden, Cynthia, Roger, Alison, Andrew, Maddy and Maelle. He is predeceased by his father, Luigi and sister, Nancy.

Jeff attended the University of Waterloo for Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1998. He was a gifted engineer with a strong commitment to his work. In particular, he took great pride and enjoyment in hiring and mentoring co-op students from his former alma mater. He was admired by his colleagues and students.

Jeff lived a simple yet fulfilling life. His advice for all of us, especially his children, was to make good choices. Jeff respected people for who they were. His perspective on life was that there is no right and wrong, there is only grey area, which was where he chose to live his life. At his core, Jeff was a problem solver, a random facts man, and a well-organized person (he never lived down the ‘wedding binder’). He was a tech guru for many, and as he never failed to remind us, was always right. Throughout his life, Jeff always loved music - from being a gifted saxophone player, to introducing those around him to new genres. He loved his tv shows and movies, Star Wars in particular. He was a kid at heart, and one of his favourite hobbies was to build Lego, a love that he shared with his children.

Because he valued succinctness and did not like a fuss, if this obituary got any longer, he would tell us there was no need for that.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday April 30th, 1-3pm at Pickering College in the Meeting Hall, parking around back in front of the Arena.

In lieu of flowers, a friend of the family has created a secure gofundme page to help fund his children’s post-secondary education and future: https://www.gofundme.com/f/8vskj-i-get-by-with-a-little-help-from-my-friends
