De Carvalho, José Pinto – Passed away peacefully at Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the age of 88. Beloved father (Pai) of Manuel, Eurico, José Jorge (Meline), Ana, and Carlos. Proud Avô (Vovo) to Kyle, Ashley, Alisha, Tatianna, Colby, James, Dillan, Eden, Nathan and Christina. Proud great grandpa to Nahlea, Malachi, Skyler and Maria. Adored brother to Americo, Antonio (predeceased), and Alberto. José is predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria, whom he cherished greatly over 40 years of marriage. He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the fortunate opportunity to know him, including dear family and friends throughout Portugal, Africa, Canada, and everyone who cared for him at Southlake Village.
Born April 7, 1934 in Ourondo (Covilhã), Portugal, José travelled extensively for duty and work – striving to provide a safe upbringing for his family. From Portugal and Mozambique to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and South Africa, José finally immigrated to Canada in 1979, where he raised his family between Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto. He worked as a machinist/millwright for most of his career. José will be remembered for his warm smile, friendly disposition, quiet nature, love for soccer, outdoor handiwork, and social interests, especially cards and dice games. He was extremely proud to be Portuguese and of his roots. He had a love for Football (soccer) and his favourite team, Benfica. He loved his wine, loved food, and loved to tell jokes and stories, but above all, he loved his family and his dear friends whom he cherished as family. He gave what he could to others, valued actions over words and was a devoted sports fan for most of his life.
Donations are welcome to the Southlake Residential Care Village or any cancer charity of your choice in honour of José's life well lived.
Funeral service will be held at Christ Church Kettleby at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 17th.
