Judith Elizabeth Jefferson (nee Morton) died surrounded by her family at Margaret Bahen Hospice on Sunday, December 8, 2019, two days before her 80th birthday.

Judy was born on December 10th, 1939 in Newmarket to her parents, Iris (Forder) and Howard Morton.
She trained as a Registered Nurse at Toronto’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and completed postgraduate training at Montreal General Hospital. Judy specialized in operating room nursing in several Ontario hospitals before taking a role as Nurse Manager of the Post Anesthetic Care Unit and Daycare Surgery at York County Hospital (now Southlake Regional Health Centre).

Judy was a kind and dedicated nurse who always made sure that her patients and staff were treated with dignity and respect. She had great passion for education, opting to go back to school at York University’s Atkinson College to study Psychology, and teach nursing courses at Humber College. In her retirement years, Judy greatly enjoyed various pursuits including quilting, knitting, needlework, cinema and literature.

Judy is survived by her sister Anna Payne (Morton), her brother Howard Morton; her daughter Elizabeth Jefferson and her daughter and son in law Katherine (Jefferson) and Gregory McHarg; her four grandchildren, Philippa Dillon-Fordyce, Judith Dillon-Fordyce, Madeline McHarg, and Jefferson McHarg; her nieces and nephews Gordon Payne & Lynne Galipeau, Carolyn (Payne) & Denis Filion, Emily Filion, Allison Filion, Ian Morton & Tammy Gaudreau, Thyra Morton, Heather Morton & Scott Blackett, and Theodore Blackett, Matilda Blackett, and Maxwell Blackett.

Please join the family for a visitation at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 1-2 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 pm in the Chapel. All are welcome to attend.

We would like to thank our LHIN Coordinator Vickie S. and the Palliative Home Care Team at Southlake RHC for their support, especially our nurse Maggie K for her dedication to our mother's care. Thank you to the staff in the ER and Cancer Care at Southlake RHC. Most of all, we'd like to thank the team at Margaret Bahen Hospice for their support of our mother and family during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating through to Margaret Bahen Hospice in memory of Judy Jefferson.

Dear Katherine and family,
My heart goes out to you and your family. Losing a mother is very difficult. Not knowing your mother but knowing you, Greg, Maddy and Jefferson, I can only say your mother must have been one incredible woman. Because you my dear are unique and strong. May her memory be a blessing. Thinking of you and your entire family. Wendy Reiner

So very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. We had some great times and shared many ups and downs during our three years at St. Joe's . Judy was one of the many who came home to Mississauga with me to enjoy Mom's banana cake, in fact if it wasn't for Judy I wouldn't have the recipe. She was a great nurse and a supportive friend. My thoughts are with you all. Beverley Banks. ( McNames '61 ).

Dear Kathy and Elizabeth,

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I remember having great talks with her whenever I was at your home and how “with it” she was. . I especially recall her love of movies and sitting on your big couch watching them with you, Kathy, and her! Such a great lady! Please know that I am thinking of you and your family.

Kathy and Elizabeth, I'm very sorry to hear of your mother's death. I always had great regard for her, even when I was a little kid. Definitely a cool mom! I am not able to get to Newmarket on Sunday but know that I'll be thinking of you as you celebrate a life well lived. Celia
