Judith Elizabeth Jefferson (nee Morton) died surrounded by her family at Margaret Bahen Hospice on Sunday, December 8, 2019, two days before her 80th birthday.
Judy was born on December 10th, 1939 in Newmarket to her parents, Iris (Forder) and Howard Morton.
She trained as a Registered Nurse at Toronto’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and completed postgraduate training at Montreal General Hospital. Judy specialized in operating room nursing in several Ontario hospitals before taking a role as Nurse Manager of the Post Anesthetic Care Unit and Daycare Surgery at York County Hospital (now Southlake Regional Health Centre).
Judy was a kind and dedicated nurse who always made sure that her patients and staff were treated with dignity and respect. She had great passion for education, opting to go back to school at York University’s Atkinson College to study Psychology, and teach nursing courses at Humber College. In her retirement years, Judy greatly enjoyed various pursuits including quilting, knitting, needlework, cinema and literature.
Judy is survived by her sister Anna Payne (Morton), her brother Howard Morton; her daughter Elizabeth Jefferson and her daughter and son in law Katherine (Jefferson) and Gregory McHarg; her four grandchildren, Philippa Dillon-Fordyce, Judith Dillon-Fordyce, Madeline McHarg, and Jefferson McHarg; her nieces and nephews Gordon Payne & Lynne Galipeau, Carolyn (Payne) & Denis Filion, Emily Filion, Allison Filion, Ian Morton & Tammy Gaudreau, Thyra Morton, Heather Morton & Scott Blackett, and Theodore Blackett, Matilda Blackett, and Maxwell Blackett.
Please join the family for a visitation at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 1-2 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 pm in the Chapel. All are welcome to attend.
