Obituary for Karen Margaret Wilton (Drylie)

On March 25, 2022, just 4 days following her 76th birthday, Karen passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre. Born March 21, 1946 in Hove, England, on the heels of the Second World War, Karen lived a life centered on her family. She is survived by her daughters Katie and Allison, sons-in-law Marcel and Kevin, sister Gillian, brother in-law Tom, nieces Brady and Gretchen (Ryan), nephew Andrew (Lindsay) and cousins and loved ones in England. She will be most profoundly missed by her grandchildren whom she adored - Sarah, Lucie, Ainsley, Leighton, Marcel, and Adam. Karen is predeceased by her parents William and Winnifred Drylie and husband Gord.
Karen dedicated her life to helping others, whether during her career as a teacher or in her retirement as a hospital volunteer. She had a likeable magnetic quality about her that allowed her to make friends easily, enjoy life and have fun no matter the circumstance. She had a love of news, books, music and travel and you’d often catch her dancing in the kitchen or sun tanning wherever she could find the sun. But perhaps it is the strength she has shown in the last weeks, months and years, in body and spirit, as she battled medical issues that is most impressive. Her warm broad smile and hearty laugh will be fondly remembered by many.
The family would like to recognize and give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket for their care and support.
Donations can be made in Karen’s memory to lionscanada.ca for Ukrainian Refugees.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2nd from 2-4 at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. S, Newmarket. The family will hold a private burial at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
