Kenneth Wilfred Grimmett passed away Wednesday, February 17th in Bradford, Ontario. Predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Margaret “Peggy” Shingler.
Ken was born December 29, 1925 at Overbury, Worcestershire, England. He grew up in the Cotswolds and worked the family farm. Ken also served as a Flight Sergeant in the Air Training Corp during WWII.
Ken and Margaret embarked on the Empress of Canada from Liverpool in May of 1951 with children Susan and Janet bound for Montreal. Ken managed the properties of Elmlea Farms east of Aurora for 20 years. He also taught Small Engines at the King Campus of Seneca College. In 1971 he moved his family to property on Wellington Street East of Aurora where he ran Ken Grimmett Sales and Service, a small engine repair shop. Ken and Margaret moved to Beaverton after Ken's retirement, then to Bond Head and later to Newmarket. Both Margaret, first, and later Ken, moved in to assisted living in Bradford where they lived out their final years. They were active members of the Aurora United, Wesley United (Vandorf), Beaverton United and Bond Head United Churches where Ken served in many roles, as the Sunday School Superintendent in Aurora, and in subsequent churches as an Elder and Choir Member.
Margaret Grimmett (nee Shingler) passed away Saturday, July 6th, 2019 in Bradford, Ontario. Born April 28, 1924 at Pelsall, Walsall, England. Margaret was a member WWII Women's Land Army, Boggarttown Women's Institute, United Church Women, and was an Award Winning Quilter.
Ken and Margaret will be missed by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The six children of Ken and Margaret including Susan Jane (Henry), Janet Denise (Doug), Linda Elizabeth (Andy), John Robert (Jennifer), William “Bill” Lawrence (Vi), and Wendy Joy (Paul).
Also missed by grandchildren and great-grandchildren including: Susan’s children and grandchildren: Jennifer (Ken) and children Evan, Arianna and Carter, David (Katy) and children Sydney and Danika, and Matthew (Stacey) and step-children Craig and Kyla. Janet’s children and grandchildren: Rodney (Debbie) and children Cameron and Brooke, Michele and children Brandon, Felecia and Jacob, Andrew (Val) and children Benjamin and Erin. Linda’s children and grandchildren Christie (Ryan) and daughters Jaden and Finley, Melody (Paul), Stephanie (Nate) and children Ivy and twins Lucinda and Byron. John’s step-sons Christopher and Andrew. Bill’s sons Geoff and Cory (Holly), Wendy’s sons Zak (Martina) and Josh (Allison).
There will be a private family Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
