Obituary for Lester Wayne Downing

DOWNING, Lester Wayne
September 11, 1945 - May 4, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lester Wayne Downing, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 4th, 2023, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, in his 78th year.

Loving husband and best friend of Theresa for over 51 years. Devoted father to Brad (Wendy), Larry (Valerie), Peter, Joanna (Steve), and Paul (Tara). Proud grandfather of Ryan (Jennifer), Dan (Shannon), Teagan, Laura (J.S.), Colby, Holly (Matt), Hannah, Maryssa (Jacob), Anna (Mark), Brendan, and Hailey. Great-grandfather of Matthew, Evan and Grace.
Cherished brother of Carol. He will be dearly missed by his fur-baby and companion Elsa. Son of the late Lester Sr. and Viola. Lester will be greatly missed by his extended family and many friends.

In his younger years Lester was a member of the Richmond Hill Dynes Jewellers. In 1972 the Dynes Jewellers represented Canada at the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup. Defeating the United States and winning Canada's first WBSC gold medal. Les and the team were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
Lester was the founder and owner of Telstar Delivery Company, a successful trucking and trucking logistics company. He was an avid squash player. His greatest accomplishment was his family, his love for them knew no bounds.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the CICU and the Emergency Department at Southlake RHC for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, Newmarket, on Monday, May 8th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at the Queensville Cemetery. Following the burial there will be a reception at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home.

The service will be live streamed for all those who cannot attend in person.
