Obituary for Linda Louise Jeffries (Johnston)

Linda Louise Jeffries was born on February 14, 1944 to Alexander and Myrtle Johnston of New Liskeard, Ontario. Eldest sister to Alice, Margaret, Elizabeth and Jennifer, Linda loved playing outdoors with her siblings. She spent much of her formative years in Australia and then her family moved to London, Ontario. Here she met her soulmate, Allen Stuart Jeffries. They wed on February 11, 1966 and together they raised Craig, Cathy and Cheryl, as well as many furry companions. The Jeffries family travelled through the United States and Canada camping and exploring many of the state and provincial parks. Linda was good with numbers and even better with people, when employed with the Bank of Montreal as a Teller and advanced to the Royal Bank of Canada as a Financial Advisor. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Allen in 2000. It was a sudden and devastating loss for Linda and her family. In an attempt to rebuild her life, Linda continued her love of the outdoors during a trip to Newfoundland and several camping adventures to Tobermory and Algonquin Park with her sister, children and grandchildren. Eventually, she sold the family home in London and moved to Burlington, where she made several friends in a road biking club. Linda also started a new career, working with her sister Jennifer and brother-in-law John at Rockwood Teak Furniture. Anyone who spent time with Linda found her adventurous spirit remarkable. Along with her many travels, Linda went whale watching, hot air ballooning and white-water rafting, and was always an active participant celebrating birthdays, graduations, weddings and other such milestones. Eventually she moved closer to her grandsons Colton and Carter in Aurora. Linda truly loved being a mother to Craig (Jennifer), Cheryl and Cathy and grandmother to Colton, Carter and Mackenzie. Her visits were always full of fun as Linda shared her love of baking, dancing and playing the organ with her grandchildren. She is fondly remembered as getting right down on the floor to play with them. Linda was a beautiful role model of how to be an empathetic mother, a kind and generous grandmother and a strong woman who fought bravely to be with her family, even when Alzheimer’s threatened to take away her sweet memories. Cheryl lovingly took care of her mother for several years in her Aurora home, before she was moved to the unfailing care of Southlake Residential Village in Newmarket. On August 20, 2021, the time came for Linda to rest and once again put on her dancing shoes to jitterbug with the angels. She passed away peacefully in her sleep and her family is comforted that Linda has been reunited with the love of her life, Allen. May she rest In peace, knowing her legacy of strength, humility and kindness lives on in her children and grandchildren.
An intimate family ceremony will be held at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral home on August 27, followed by a luncheon at the Jeffries residence. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society or Southlake Village are appreciated.
