Obituary for Marion Frances Foord (Tait)

Tears of sorrow were shed by her family and closest friends upon the passing of Marion Frances Foord on Sunday evening, September 18th at Southlake Regional Health Centre. Her close friend was with her on this final journey that would see her received into the arms of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In her 96th year she was predeceased by her sister Janet Mabel Horner RN of B.C. 1934-2018, her husband of 49 years, Marshall Vernon Foord, PS Teacher, 1926-2003, her mother Mabel Iva Tait a graduate nurse of Kingston General Hospital, 1898-1997, and her father Clifton Robert Tait, World War II veteran and Pharmacist, 1898-1946. Marion is survived by her beloved nieces Cathy Horner and Susan Kirsh, and grandnieces Rachelle and Emma Kirsh of British Columbia.

Marion was born in Toronto. At an early age her family moved to Windsor but soon moved to the small Ontario Town of Stayner where her father opened “Tait’s Pharmacy”. Her younger sister, Janet, was born in Stayner. There, Marion spent all her youth living and growing to adulthood. As a teenager she loved working in Tait’s Pharmacy serving soda fountains at the counter. After graduation she taught in a one room, country school, grades 1 through 12 where, on cold, winter mornings, she would get the coal-burning stove going. Marion studied piano through the Toronto Conservatory of Music. It was in Stayner where she met her first love and husband-to-be, Marshall.

They soon moved to Newmarket and lived in an apartment on Gorham St. Marshall found a teaching position and is still fondly remembered by former students at Prince Charles Public School on Srigley Street. They eventually found a home at 142 Pleasant View Avenue, a short walk from the school. This remained their home until Marion “down-sized” to Barton Retirement Residence in 2011 – suite 124!

She was a devoted homemaker, long-time member of Women’s Probus Club, proud member of the United Church Women at Trinity, and a happy participant of the Red Hat Society She attended a course in Conversational French at Huron Heights SS in 1980.

Very central in Marion’s life was her faith in Jesus Christ as recounted in her favourite scripture, John 3:16. This was formed early on through attendance at Centennial United Church in Stayner and continued in Newmarket at Trinity On Main UC. Marion is remembered as one who put everyone before herself, “a gentle, sweet soul, her smile and quiet manner was always a welcoming sight, my first friend at Trinity and pew partner”. Marion lived an exemplary life and will be remembered by all whose paths she crossed. Rest in peace dear Marion.

Cards of condolence and donations in her memory can be forwarded via Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave, Newmarket L3Y 1V9.
