Obituary for Mary Louise Van Den Elzen (Beckett)

With love and gratitude for a wonderful life, we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beautiful mother, Mary Louise (Beckett) Van Den Elzen at Southlake Regional Hospital on Sunday May 29th, 2022 in her 86th year. Her mind was bright alas her body was not. She was devoted to her five children, Theresa Cressatti (Danny), John (Sharon), Cathy Grant (Eric), Peter (Kim) and Micheal (Jennifer). A special Nanny to 14, Kristina, Jennifer, Deanna Perrin (Alex), Marita, Victoria, Elizabeth, Ceili, Madison, Conner, Will, Sydney, Macy, Reid and Natalie. Adored Nan Nan of Anthony Cressatti and Theo Perrin. Predeceased by her parents Albert and Mary Beckett, brother Frank, her sister and best friend Tina, and recently by her baby brother Joseph.
Mary Lou and later just Mary, loved babies and children and helped many to grow up under her guiding hand along with her gal pal Ethel, in the daycare at Glenway Country Club. Nothing made Mom happier then TCM Classic movies, Young Frankenstein lines, playing games every week with adults and kids included, and the famous sing-alongs and shows performed by all. Her sense of humour was quirky and wry. She enjoyed good food and good wine. She was contented with the simple things in life. Mom never asked or demanded anything and was always overwhelmed when she was spoiled by us. She lived her life with love and gratitude and we will strive to be like her. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff in ICU, nurses Madison, Kayla and especially Mike and Kim for their insightful care of Mom and of us. Dr. Lossing, Dr. Ramakrishnan for his guidance in the final hours and a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nathanson who’s bedside manner even on the phone is magical. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southlake Regional Health Center or Sick Kids Hospital.

If you are joining us for the celebration, the family will be wearing some of her favourite colours lilac, periwinkle, lavender or purple and we invite you to do the same.

Visitation will be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, Newmarket, on Tuesday, May 31st from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The memorial service will take place on June 1st, at 10 a.m. in the chapel followed by a reception.

The service will be livestreamed for all those who are unable to attend in person.
