Obituary for Mary Catherine Villamere (Kirton)

Mary, Mom, Grandma, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 83. Mary was born February 2, 1938, and grew up in Snowball, Ontario, just around the corner from where she and Ernie spent their last year at Sunrise, in Aurora.

Mary is predeceased by her loving husband, Ernie, and will be deeply missed by her children Ed (Gillian), Dan (Debbie), and Matthew (Karen), as well as her grandsons, Benjamin, and Nathan. We are comforted knowing Mary will be reunited with her beloved Ernie, and daughter Cathy, spending this Christmas together and watching over us all.

Mary was many things to many people. In her professional life she was an expert bookkeeper and administrative professional, working both in Toronto and Montreal. Mary was an extraordinary cook and baker, keeping not only her family, but the neighbour kids fed and with a place to hang out. Mary was also an exceptional baseball player, and coach, and has passed that love onto her sons and especially her grandson Nathan.

Mary loved to garden and kept magnificent gardens at the family’s homes whether in Montreal or Mississauga. Mary kept things growing all year long and had both amazing floral and edible gardens. Finally, Mary was a great craftsperson and could sew and make just about anything, including some of the best Halloween costumes!

Most of all, Mary loved to be social, laugh, and have fun with her family and friends. So many wonderful memories of camping in Bracebridge, dinners with friends, and socializing with neighbours and family alike. Mary taught and inspired people in her everyday life and has passed on her love for food and cooking, gardening, baseball and pets to her children, grandchildren, and those she thought of as her own. Rest well, Mary, you will be missed but your legacy lives on.

We would like to thank Sunrise Aurora for providing exceptional care of Mary and Ernie over the last year. We will gather to celebrate Mary’s life in Spring 2022.
