Obituary for Melville Spencer Stanway

MELVILLE SPENCER STANWAY

Passed away in his 91st year on Thursday August 22, 2019 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario. Beloved husband for more than 65 years and best friend of Joyce Mary Stanway (who predeceased him in 2016). Dear father of Dale (Charlene) of Canmore, Alberta, loving grandmother of Kent (Barbara) of Gander, Newfoundland and Reid of London, England and very proud great grandfather of Layla. Brother of Howard (Jean) and Brian (Auriel) of South Wales, UK and uncle of nieces and nephews in Canada, Wales and England.

Spencer was born in Ferndale, Wales and emigrated to Canada with Joyce and Dale in 1957. He spent over 50 happy years living in the home he and his family built together in Schomberg, Ontario. Most recently he enjoyed his new home at the Roxborough Retirement Residence.

Spencer had a varied and interesting career starting at RAF Halton where he trained for the Royal Air Force and worked as a navigator. After arriving in Canada, he worked in various fields and told his friends and family about his involvement with the Avro Arrow, CANDU Reactors and the Canada Space Arm.

Special thanks to Cyndi McAvoy (Care for You) for her loving care of Spencer … She was his favourite lunch date! Thanks also to all the staff at the Roxborough Retirement Residence who made Spencer feel so at home since his arrival in 2017.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St., Newmarket, Ontario, L3Y 3Y9.

There will be a coffee hour for his friends from the Roxborough Residence on August 26th at 10:00 AM so they can pay their respects to Spencer’s family.

In lieu of flowers to the family, please remember Spencer in your own way perhaps with your favourite beer or chocolate bar with your friends and family.
