Obituary for Paul William Hubert Dings

OBITUARY FOR OUR BELOVED FATHER

01-Sep-1928 to 24-Apr-2023

A beloved husband, father and Opa, Paul William Hubert Dings passed away peacefully followng a courageous battle of illnesses on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the age of 94.

Let us begin his legacy.

He leaves behind his adoring wife of 69 years Connie Johanna Petronella Timmermans and his three daughters Barbara Esson, Jacqueline Bakker and Kimberly Sheedy. His grandchildren Tara Mercer, Sean Esson and Patrick Esson, Brendan and Cameron Bakker, Zachary and Alexandria Sheedy and his great grandchildren Reighlan and Emerson Mercer and Oliver Esson.

He was loved by everyone who knew him, and was a good friend to so many!

Paul was born in The Netherlands, emigrated to Canada and was followed shortly thereafter by his now wife Connie. They both became proud citizens and their final destination was Holland Landing, ON. They raised their family with strong morals and lots of love.

Paul lived a full life filled with much happiness and, of course some struggles, too. But the foundation of ‘his way’ was his decades long commitment to his faith which guided him throughout his lifes journey.

He was always involved in the lives of his children, and always had an abundance of friends to laugh with and enjoy. He welcomed everyone into his home and had a wholehearted passion for family values. He became an advisor and mentor to so many over the years.

Paul lived with enthusiasm, grace, and compassion every step of the way.

Dad, the list to describe you is endless, so here goes...

As a Husband, you were patient, loving and always provided the best you could. Mom was always your first priority.

As a Dad and Grand Father,
You were affectionately called Opa and Papa Smurf
You had the gentle voice when we needed consoling
You had a loving embrace when we needed comfort
You were a trusted confidant when we needed advice
You were a witty jokester when we needed levity
You were a firm parent when we needed discipline
You were always a proud when we achieved our goals
You were always there for us

As a Person,
You were humble and kind, and you had a steel-trap memory
You were a prolific putzer, and had a passion for building model ships
You had an entrepreneurial spirit, which bode well for your logical and organizational skills
You took delight in gardening and everything else the outdoors had to offer
You were fond of travel whether to visit family or friends or simply exploring new places
You loved to dance to live music, especially your favourite German polkas
Sharing good food with friends and family were always special times for you
Your endless thirst for knowledge and current events were undeniable
You loved to share stories

Dad, you changed our lives forever - and for the better. We will carry the torch now. We know you are in a better place now, and we chuckle knowing you have now joined all the friends and family you have lost throughout these years. You will always continue to be that beautiful man that you are. We are so proud of you!

With forever love, your entire family.
