Obituary for Richard Paul Erdmann

Erdmann, Richard Paul passed away peacefully with the support of his wife at his side, at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket on Sunday September 26 2021, in his 57th year after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Loving and devoted husband of Michelle (nee Mallen) for 33 years. Beloved father of Jonathan, Joshua and Sophia Erdmann and dear son of the late Alberdina (Doreen) Erdmann and Paul Erdmann. Richard was educated at Queen's University in Kingston where he graduated in 1987 with his Bachelor of Arts and in 1988 with his Bachelor of Education, after which he began his 30 year career as a teacher and an administrator with the York Region Board of Education. Richard was devoted to his career in education and enjoyed working with and guiding students, sharing his compassion and strength with parents, sharing his time, leadership and wisdom with teachers and fellow administrators. Richard gave his "all" and enthusiasm to everything he touched, and has left a lasting impression with many and will be dearly missed. Always willing to share his most personal experiences with all who might benefit from his learnings, Richard blogged about his most personal battle with cancer, never missing a week, and through this selfless sharing of this most private journey, reaching and helping so many dealing with similar struggles. His messages resonated with all. Richard was especially devoted to his family, proud of their accomplishments, wanting their happiness and with dreams for the many more exciting things yet to come their way.

Our family would also like to say a special thank you to the caring staff with the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, particularly Dr. Simos and nurse Jen, the Palliative care team with Southlake Regional Health Centre, particularly Dr. Mulhern, nurses Shondra, Mahtab and Netta, and the dedicated staff with Margaret Bahen Hospice Centre who worked tirelessly to see to his comfort and that of his family.
