Obituary for Richard Alan Odlum (Odlum)
Richard Alan Odlum, age 69, of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his mother Evelyn, his brother John (Marja-Liisa), and sister Susan (Doug) Higgs. He was an uncle to six nephews; Derek Odlum, David (Giselle) Odlum, Kenneth (Krista) Odlum, Andrew (Anne) Higgs, Kevin (Heather) Higgs, Daniel (Ashlyn) Higgs and 13 great-nieces and nephews; Julianne, Henri and Ethan Odlum, as well as Katie, Matthew, Julian, Owen, Emilie, Avery, Charlotte, Hayden, Hunter and Hudson Higgs.
Richard is predeceased by his father Frank Odlum, and grandparents Frank & Viola Odlum and Walter & Lillian Smith.
Born in Toronto, Richard eventually made his way to Northview Heights Secondary School in Willowdale, Ontario where he graduated before starting his Business Math degree at the University of Waterloo in 1979.
He lived an active life of both organizing and participating in a Curling Club in Calgary. He worked for over 36 years in various accounting roles throughout TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. (now TC Energy) until his retirement in the Calgary Head Office as Financial Analyst, Pipeline Accounting.
Richard was a kind, devoted son who spent many days taking care of his mother who is 101 years old. She will miss him beyond words! Richard loved visiting the family cottage in Muskoka each summer.
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 17 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the reception room of Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street S, New Market, Ontario. Following the celebration of Richard's life his urn will be interred at New Market Cemetery.
