Obituary for Susan Joyce "Joy" Hambrook (Mason)

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our wonderful mother, Joy Hambrook (nee Mason), on July 15, 2021 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Peter, Joy is survived by her three daughters, Susan, Lisa (Kevin) and Paula; four grandchildren, Kyle (Angela), Heather (Dave), Kiera (Branden), and Stuart (Richel); and eight great grandchildren, Mason, Benjamin, Adalynn, Jaxon, Malia, Emmett, Ethan and Addison.

Joy was born in Wansford, England to parents Bert and Bertha Mason, the youngest of five children. In 1957, Joy married the love of her life, Peter, and quickly immigrated to Canada. Joy and Peter resided in Toronto and Richmond Hill before moving to their beloved Newmarket in 1972 where they raised their lovely three daughters.

Loving and caring, Joy’s door was always open. She spent many years welcoming British nannies into her home as they arrived in Canada and was a decades-long active member of the Girl Guides and the Trefoil Guild. She was the linchpin of Millard Avenue who gathered all together. She was a great friend to all, the second-mother to many and will be greatly missed by her family, neighbours and friends.

A private funeral is being held due to Covid restrictions. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
