Obituary for Terrence Philip Pavey

Terrence Philip Pavey (“Terry”)
January 7, 1950 – April 24, 2022

Terry Pavey died peacefully on April 24, 2022 at the age of 72, after a ten year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare, untreatable, progressive neurological disorder. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Jo Ann (Heath), older brothers Christopher (Helene), Gordon (Deborah), John (Michael), mother-in-law Raymonde, sister-in-law Sandra (Paul), seven nephews and a niece.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Terry was the youngest of four sons of Walter Gordon Pavey and Elizabeth Joan Pavey (Swift). He had a successful career in Information Technology, retiring from FedEx as Managing Director, IT Canada.

Terry bred and exhibited Collies and then Shelties under the Whitegates prefix, a passion and hobby he was born into and later shared with Jo Ann. The care of the dogs, the planning, going to shows together and making lifelong friends along the way were a source of joy for them both. Terry also enjoyed travelling and he and Jo Ann were very fortunate to have visited several destinations in the Far East, Europe, Egypt as well as many sun seeking trips to Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Terry was an avid golfer and competitive bridge player. He often said he majored in bridge at university, where he honed his card playing skills. He loved watching sports, particularly basketball, football, hockey and golf. Always a big kid at heart, Terry was a skilled PC and game system gamer, making him the “fun uncle”.

The last seven years were extremely difficult for Terry as this very cruel disease took its toll. Terry handled this with a grace, dignity and reluctant acceptance that was inspiring to those around him. We are so very grateful for the wonderful care and compassion Terry received during his almost three years at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie. We particularly want to acknowledge and thank all of the PSWs who worked 2 West, they are truly angels on earth. Special thanks also to Dr. Carmela Tartaglia and staff at Toronto Western Hospital who were always so helpful to us in every way.

Terry is finally at peace.
