Obituary for Thomas John Brannan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas John Brannan.
Thomas passed away peacefully at the Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket on Sunday, July 4, 2021 in his 82nd year. Loving husband to Edith (nee Philp) of 58 years. Beloved father of Sandra (Dave), Pauline (Dave), Thomas (Angela) and Kevin (Vina). Proud grandfather of Michael, Jack, Matthew, Laura, Shannon (Nick), Charlene, and Bryle. Survived by his sisters Sadie, Marie, and Patsy. Son of the late John Brannan and Mary Devlin.
Thomas and Edith were married on September 1, 1962. They immigrated to Canada with their two daughters in October, 1966. They lived in Scarborough before moving their family to Newmarket in 1971.
Thomas served his apprenticeship at The Mirrlees Watson Co Ltd in Scotland and then joined the Millwrights Local 2309 shortly after arriving in Canada.
He was an avid soccer player, coach and referee. He played for various soccer teams including the annual Scotland v. England game in his hometown of Newmarket. He coached his sons throughout their minor soccer leagues and also contributed to the soccer leagues being a referee.
Thomas was a dedicated fan of the Glasgow Celtic Football Club, while also being a regular and well-loved member of the Aurora Celtic Supporters Club.
Thomas was a devoted husband, terrific father, and an amazing Grampie. He was loved by family and friends and will be missed dearly. Thomas inspired everyone he knew and had a huge heart. He was incredibly selfless and was always putting others first before himself. His laugh was contagious and he never failed to put a smile on our faces with his great sense of humour and wee daft jokes.
He will live on forever in our hearts.
