Obituary for Vicki Edney

Violet (Vicki) Jane Edney left this world peacefully on August 25, 2021 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in her 95th year surrounded by her family and love, after suffering a stroke 2 weeks previously. She will be sorely missed by her four children, William (Carol), Robert (Carol), Brian (Margaret) and Barbara (Mark) Mulrenin.
Mom was born in Sudbury on December 11, 1926 to Joe and Jessie (Witty) Currie, the third of nine children. She was adopted at an early age by Melvin and Ada (Darker) Witty and spent her childhood on a farm near Woodbridge. She attended the University of Toronto and trained as a teacher. She married William Doherty in 1952, divorced and then married Ronald Edney in 1982, both of whom have predeceased her. She lived in Thornhill, then on a farm near Newmarket, in Barrie, and since 2011 at the Roxborough retirement residence. She was very active at the Roxborough playing cards and joining every activity. She won 3 medals in the recent Roxborough Olympics. She was an active member of several book clubs.
She never did get to go skydiving, which was her next goal, after she completed the CN Tower Edgewalk for her 90th birthday. Mom always looked ahead to her next adventure, never back, as she made her way through life. In her younger days she took flying lessons and, in a different era, may have been an airline pilot or astronaut. There was nothing she would not try and would never turn down any invitation for dinner, a show, or weekend at the cottage. She could do a great “Dead Bug” at yoga. She never complained and was always happy, though she was very opinionated and would always let you know how she felt. She was extremely well read and informed on everything happening in the world around her.
Vicki will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Bill (Emily), Jeff (Kindal), Christopher, Matthew (Sara-Kristin), Heather, Jenna, Lauren and Colin, and her great grandchildren Karlianna, Adelina, Paige and Summer. Vicki asked to be cremated and her ashes scattered on Marie Island, an island in Sparrow Lake now owned by her son William. She bought the island when working at a lodge on the lake as a teenager. She would not want to be confined.
Mom was very generous in life and contributed to many worthwhile causes. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a memorial donation, please select a charity of your choice.
