Obituary for William "Bill" Kenneth Jones

JONES, William Kenneth (Bill) July 25, 1942 - July 29, 2019

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of a kind, generous and
compassionate man. Bill was the loving husband of Sandi (Nagypal) and devoted
father of Alex, Randy and Lisa. Proud Grandpa to Evan, Max, Maddie and Theo.
He will be missed by sisters-in-law Ilona Adelstein and Ann Nagypal, along with
his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Clarence
Jones, his brother Rodney and sister-in-law Cathy. Bill was born in Niagara Falls,
later moved to Ridgeway and then to Aurora/Newmarket. Football was a large
part of his high school and university life. Bill obtained his undergraduate degrees
at Acadia and McMaster and then completed his Masters of Education at Brock.
Bill’s career as an educator and administrator with the York Region District School
Board made a profound impact on staff and students. Bill also obtained his
superintendent qualifications. After retiring he enjoyed financial planning until his
illness prevented him from working. Bill’s positive attitude was evident in all that
he did. Family camping trips were the highlight of his summer as were canoe trips
with Bruce, Ed and Jim. Hockey was a passion. Bill loved coaching his children
and playing Friday night with the Knightmares. He enjoyed many great rounds of
golf on various courses in both the US and Canada. Ski trips were enjoyed by the
family until Sandi convinced him that lying on the beach was much more relaxing.
Above all, Bill’s ultimate love was for his family. Included in his family was Ernie
Dubkowski, his brother by choice who was by his side through Bill’s entire
journey. Sincere appreciation to his dear friend Sharon, with whom he shared
many lunch dates. All who knew Bill will forever carry with them his tender spirit,
patience, empathy, perseverance and sense of humour. Bill demonstrated
remarkable resilience when facing the daily challenges of a neurological disease.

Special thanks to the Baycrest 4West staff for their exceptional care and
compassion towards both Bill and Sandi. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honour
Bill’s memory, donations to Baycrest Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
