Obituary for William Robert Murray

Murray, William Robert

Bill passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre on April 16, 2023, at the age of 64, surrounded by family and friends. Bill will forever be missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sandra, his son Adam (Allison) and daughter Meghann (Daniel). Bill was a proud grandfather to Jack, Ellie, and Owen, a brother to Scott, Heather, and the late Mark, cherished son of the late William and Thelma, and adored son-in-law to Rita and the late Jim Walker.

Bill was a respected and upstanding member of the Toronto Police Service, where he served 37 years. He will be remembered for his dedication, loyalty, leadership, and sense of humor. Those who were fortunate to work alongside Bill will forever be recounting numerous anecdotes from their time together. He proudly took these attributes with him to Thomson Reuters as a security specialist. Bill loved his time spent with the Thomson Reuters team.

Bill was passionate about sports, having played and coached youth sports. Hockey, golf, rugby, and footy being his favorites. Beyond sports, one of his favorite pastimes was travelling with his wife, Sandra. He was always planning their next adventure, but Bill made sure he was never away from Scotland too long, frequently returning to support Scottish rugby and his club “Hearts of Midlothian”.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, whether it was celebrating the special moments, or a simple backyard barbeque, Bill cherished being with those that he loved.

Special Thanks to all those who loved and cared for Bill during his difficult battle. Bill will forever be remembered as a devoted family man and loyal friend to those lucky enough to have known and loved him.

“Whatever may happen next can’t take away a life well-lived and memories made together.”

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 PM on Thursday May 11, 2023 at the York Region Police Association (The Shed).
