Obituary for Gloria Mary Margaret McIndless (Weir)

Gloria Mary Margaret McIndless (Weir)
McINDLESS, Gloria Mary Margaret – With family by her side, Gloria passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, on November 21st, 2015 in her 84th year after her second battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Thomas (November 21, 1987), son Richard (2007). Beloved mother of Dawna (Don Andrews), Doris (Richard Lyons – deceased 1994); Brett (Lisa), Glen and Lara (Ian Koepke) and mother-in-law of Donna (Widow of Rick). Proud Nana to many, including 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Gloria born on July 13th, 1932 and was the 2nd oldest of 13 children born to John and Merle (Allison) Weir. She is predeceased by her brothers, Earl, John, Joseph, William, James and Thomas and by her sisters Carol and Margaret. She is survived by her sisters Mary, Linda, Jeannie and Wendy.
Gloria spent her life caring for everyone: her siblings, after the passing of her mother, her children and grandchildren as well as being ‘mom’ or ‘nana’ to many, many others. She volunteered and worked in the area of mental health in York Region. She was a woman of great faith and a capacity to love, care and show empathy to ALL, including those in need and the vulnerable. Everyone was welcome at her home to sit at the table and enjoy a tea and conversation. She was also an artist, working in oils and acrylics on whatever medium was available, or simply with a pencil and spare piece of paper. She was a seamstress as well – another outlet for her creative mind.
She was married to Tom for 39 years prior to losing him to cancer in November 1987. She was immensely proud and in love with all her children, grand and great-grand-children, and her extended family and took joy in spending time with them, and they with her.
Many thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Palliative Unit at Southlake RCH for the care and compassion shown to Gloria and her family as they stayed by her over the last few weeks of her life.
Visitation will be held at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home in Newmarket on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at Victory Baptist Church, Newmarket on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 1 pm followed by a luncheon at the church.
If desired, donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church or Matthews House Hospice. On-line condolence at www.roadhouseandrose.com
