Remembering Roy and his brother Ken

Hello Roy Bryson family and kin,

The Clink and Smith family were sorry to learn of our cousin Roy Bryson's passing and wish express to cousin Sharon and the rest of the family our condolences.  Marion Bryson (Mrs Allen Clink) 1917-2005, my mother was a first cousin of Roy and his older brother Ken.Cousin Roy was named after her father Roy Bryson 1889-1947. My mother was an only child and looked upon Roy and Ken as more like brothers than first cousins. SHe was also very close to Roy's mom and Dad Roma Morrow and Lorne Bryson. Roy and Ken were doubly related to Mom as her mother's first cousin Roma Morrow married her husband's younger brother Lorne.

My mother died in 2005 as a result of Alzheimers and father died in 2012 at the age of 94. Though they were no longer mobile and connecting with relatives as in the past, I kept in touch with cousin Roy before they passed away and he would call from time to time to see how my parents were doing. We were in discussion about getting together and seeing Dad before he died in 2012 but both Dad and Roy were not too well at the time and regretably that did not happen. Roy however did keep touch with me from time to time through the internet. and with yearly Christmas Cards. Like my Mom, I too felt an strong family connection to our Bryson family and to Roy and Margaret, Ken and Barbara in particular. What I remember most about  cousin Roy was his sense of humour and his pleasant demeanor, not unlike his older brother Ken.

Though we lost most of our Bryson oldtimers, I am fortunate that I am old enough to have known many of them, though my Grandfather Bryson died in 1947 long before I was born. I did spend quite a bit of time as a kid with my Grandmother Bryson and some of the Brysons and Morrows of her generation, so I got know at least a few Bryson relatives oldtimers born in the Victorian era. Roy's Aunt Ruby Bryson left me with an old Bryson family bible presented to Roy's Grandfather William Bryson (1860-1946) of Kendal, ONtario in the 1880's by his mother, Ann Hoy Bryson my great-great grandmother from County ANtrim,  Ireland before Aunt RUby sold the family farm in Kirby and went into an old age home. This old leather family bible began my interest in research in the Bryson family History which I undertook begining in the 1990's with my second cousin Bill Bryson. A few weeks before Roy's passing, Cousin Bill contacted me and reminded me that we should finish the Bryson family history book that we had put on hold years ago and get it finished. Hopefully by the end of this year if not before there will be a Bryson Family of Kendal book completed and available to relatives. Working on the Bryson history once again makes me somewhat notalgic for the good old days and the times I spent with my Bryson relatives as a kid. Roy was very much a part of my Bryson past and always will be fondly thought of in my memories.

P.S. REgarding the photo I submitted. That is my older sister Marilyn Clink (Mrs Laurie Smith) in the picture age about three and she thinks that this photo was actually taken about 1949 1950 and not 1951 and not at Christmas  I think she is probably correct. Sorry about that. My Dad, Allen Clink was a bit of a photography buff going way back and he had hundreds of old photos on Kodachrome slide film from the late 40's early 50's that were kept in boxes in the closet and years later I scanned some of them onto my computer. I think that was the oldest one we had that included Roy. He cant be more than 19 or 20 at the time that photo was took I am sure at my Parent's original home in Toronto.

sincerely yours,

Donald Clink
